MUSICAL FEATURES

As the name suggests, it is an analog 4 pole low-pass filter that produces a fat tone with enhanced functions based on the design of the Rev2 filter chip "SSM2040" of the famous Prophet-5.

SOUND:  The sound quality of Z2040 based on SSM2040 has a wide range of expressive power from fat and transparent sound to distorted sound.Gain, resonance, cutoffA wide range of sounds can be created by combining the three knobs. This filter also feeds the audio signal into the FM input,Filter FMCan produce a particularly punchy sound when performing.

Self-oscillation:It is difficult to adjust the pitch of the sine wave generated by self-oscillation to the scale because the FM input is not 1V / Oct. Instead, with the Z2040, you can cut the sound by sending an envelope from the VC-GAIN to the built-in VCA,Sine-wave based percussive sound sourceIt is suitable to use like.

VC-FM: One of the features of the Z2040 is the VC-FM input. This is the input to "modulate the modulating signal" that modulates the CV signal to FM in. This allows, for example,
  1. Audio rate CV → FM in, attacking envelope → VC-FM in: Sound that filter FM is strongly applied and attenuated only at the moment of attack
  2. Relatively fast LFO → FM in, Slow LFO → VC-FM in: Filter modulation sound whose intensity changes slowly. Drone sound with richer movement when used in conjunction with VC-GAIN.
  3. Envelope → FM in, voltage corresponding to velocity → VC-FM in: Acid sound whose filter envelope intensity changes in response to velocity

 Both FM in and VC-FM in are equipped with an attenuator knob for adjusting the modulation level.
 

PHYSICAL STRUCTURE

 The core of the Z2040 is the SSM2040 chip, but it is worth noting that it has more modulation options than the original chip of the 70s, and also supports modern usability.

Built-in VCA  The Z2040 has a built-in VCA, and you can set whether to place it before or after the filter by setting the rear jumper. Since the VC-GAIN input is connected to the CV in of this built-in VCA (see below), the Z2040 not only has the frequency and resonanceGain can also be CV controlled. If you want to control the amount of filter distortion with CV, place the built-in VCA in the first stage, and if you want to use it as a clean output VCA, place it in the second stage.
 The settings for each case are as follows.
