JACKS and KNOBS

X-CLK

When a gate or clock signal of 2.5V or more is input, the sequence advances one step in the X direction. In Snake mode, it operates as a clock input to advance the sequence by one.

X-MOD

Input a gate signal to further change the sequence of Rene. How the gate signal works is determined in the X-Fun section of the PGM page.

X-CV

The CV entered here is converted to coordinates, and the X coordinate is advanced by the input CV. When not patched, 5V is supplied by internal wiring, so twisting the attenuator changes the X coordinate of the sequence. In Snake mode, the sequence is advanced by the input CV.

X-CV Attenuator

X-CV attenuator

Y Axis Section

A jack for clocking and modulating in the Y direction. Its role is the same as that of X. However, in Snake mode, Y-CLK and Y-CV are used for sequence selection.

Sensitivity Adjust

This knob adjusts the sensitivity of the touch plate. Turn clockwise to increase sensitivity.

PGM 1 (PGM Page Select)

Plate to select ProGraM page. The ProGraM page is

  • -Access
  • -X-Gate
  • -Y-Gate
  • -X-Fun
  • -Y-Fun
  • -Q
Is displayed, and each time you press it, you can access it in order and the LED shows the current page.

PGM 2

If you touch this plate while holding down some grids on the PLAY page (main mode), the sequence between grids will be held even if you release your finger. AlsoLong press to save all settingsTo do. If it is a PGM page, you will return to the play page.

QCV Output

Quantize CV output. The voltage corresponding to the knob of the currently active stage is output. The voltage is quantized for pitch (settings are made in Q on the ProGraM page). It has a 4 octave range.

Also, depending on the Q setting, the stored quantize voltage is output from here, in which case the voltage stored in the memory is output instead of the voltage corresponding to the knob.

CV Output

CV output. The voltage corresponding to the knob of the currently active stage is output. Unlike QCV, the voltage is not quantized for pitch and always reflects the knob value. 0-4.5V

G-X Output

Gate signal output. A gate signal is output when the stage that is ON on the X-Gate page is reached by XCLK. The length of the gate is the length of XCLK. These behaviors are changed by the logic settings on the X-Fun page.

In Snake mode, this output is a short gate signal of 2ms without reflecting the length of XCLK.

G-Y Output

Gate signal output. The gate signal is output when the stage that is ON on the Y-Gate page is reached by YCLK. The gate length is the length of YCLK. These actions are changed by the logic settings on the Y-Fun page.

In Snake mode, this output is a short gate signal of 2ms without reflecting the length of YCLK.

CV Programming Grid

Use the knob to set the voltage output from QCV / CV.

Touch Grid

On the Play page, touching moves the sequence to that position. Also used for settings such as gate, Access and Q. In addition to the Play page, it is also possible to use Touch Grid as if you were playing on the settings page.

When you move the cursor over the screen, the role of each part is displayed in a popup.

MUSICAL FEATURES

Japanese manualThere is.

Rene is the only `` Cartesian sequencer '' designed for synthesizers that can create complex sequences that go beyond linear changes while specifying steps in X and Y, horizontal and vertical pairs. "is.

In Rene,Two clock inputs, XCLK and YCLKWhich determines the movement on the 4x4 grid. In normal mode (not snake mode), the active stage by XCLK goes one step to the right, and the rightmost goes to the left. The stage activated by YCLK goes up one step, and goes to the bottom at the top. AlsoX-CV and Y-CV inputAllows you to shift the X and Y coordinates according to the CV.

Rene is very playable with your fingers, and you can move to that stage by touching the 4x4 touch grid. If you hold several grids with several fingers, the sequence will be performed only between the grids. If you press the PGM2 button at that time, even if you release your finger, the sequence only between the gridsholdPress the PGM2 button again to return.

These sequences and performances are the starting point of Rene's operation.ProGraM pageBy changing the settings of Rene, you can make various sequence settings in Rene. The ProGraM page is accessed by touching the PGM1 button (left side of the plate located above Touch Grid). On the ProGraM page,Access to each grid, gate ON / OFF, MOD input setting, sequence mode setting, quantizer setting, etc.Can be done.

 Rene has the following features:
  • With minimal input, you can maximize musical and controllable variations.
  • All programming can be done in real time as part of the performance. Rather, programming in real time is the biggest trick in Rene's performance.
  • Up to four clock signals and two CVs can be input at the same time, allowing you to create complex and musical patterns.
  • Quantized CV (QCV) output for pitch control such as DPO (programmable scale)
  • Unquantized CV output to help control tones and more
  • Two different gate / pulse sequence outputs can be used to signal event cues or trigger envelopes such as MATHS.
  • It works well with Pressure Points.

ProGraM PAGE

The various ProGraM pages and their settings are as follows.

Access

You can set which of the 16 stages is accessible. In Rene, when you come to an inaccessible stage where the knob is not lit, you will fly to the next accessible stage (SEEK) or sleep for the corresponding time (SLEEP). To select SEEK or SLEEP, use the SEEK / SLEEP setting of X-Fun or F-Fun (common to XY).

X-Gate

Set the stage to output the gate from the G-X output.

Y-Gate

Set the stage to output the gate from the G-Y output.

X-Fun

Make various settings for the X-direction sequence. Some settings are the same as the settings in Y-Fun. Each setting item corresponds to a grid, and the setting status is indicated by the lighting of the knob. Some settings are not related to each other, some are related, and it is a little complicated, but mastering these settings will greatly increase the value of Rene. For details on each setting, see "X-Fun / Y-Fun Details" below.

Y-Fun

The same setting as X-Fun can be made for Y direction. Some settings are common with X-Fun.

Q

Quantize settings. The lower 12 of the 16 grids correspond to the 12 scales, and you can set which scale the voltage output from the QCV will output by turning the grid ON / OFF. For the corresponding scale of each touch grid, see the captions (CB) on the left side of the touch grid.

In addition, the upper four touch grids other than the scale are used to memorize the quantization setting and the scale indicated by each knob, and function as four presets by pressing and holding. And the state of the memory (Stored Quantized Voltage), The voltage output from the QCV is no longerNot reflected. The voltage corresponding to the stored knob setting is output. Only the CV output voltage reflects the knob. With this setting2 independent CVsCan be output, and QCV can be used for pitch and CV for controlling parameters related to tone. To exit this state (Stored Quantized Voltage), press the touch plate corresponding to the current memory again.

X-Fun / Y-Fun details

Details of each item that can be set on X-Fun page. Printed on the left side of each touch gridcaptionTo see which grids have which settings.

About logical operations
Some of the settings of X-FUN show the setting by logical operation. This is an operation that takes two ON / OFF as inputs and derives one ON / OFF from it.Generating rhythm patternsIt can be used for By inputting various division clocks and time-varying gates to X-MOD etc., it is easy to output gates twice while staying at the same stage, for example, and the sequence that is born It becomes very flexible and organic.

In the figure below, AND, OR, and XOR take two gate signals, A and B, as inputs and show what gates are output. For example, if A is XCLK and B is X-MOD, the output signal will be as follows according to the CLK By Mod setting.ANDIs "ON when both are ON",ORIs "ON if either is ON",XORIs an operation that outputs "ON when only one is ON".

FWD / BWD / PEND

This is a setting made with the top three grids on the left. Indicates the direction of the sequence. FWD is to the right, BWD to left, and PEND to and from. Only one of FWD / BWD / PEND can be selected, but these modes and the next SNAKE mode can be used together.

SNAKE

If you turn on the rightmost grid on the top row,SNAKE modeIt is a sequence mode called, and 16 stages can be sequenced only with XCLK instead of YCLK. In SNAKE mode, the path to sequence 16 stages by YCLK or Y-CV can be switched by trigger or specified by CV. When not patched to Y-CV, the sequence path can be switched with the Y-CV attenuator. Refer to the manual for the list of sequence paths in SNAKE mode. SNAKE settings are common to X-FUN and Y-FUN.

SEEK / SLEEP

Set with the lower left grid. Shows the behavior when the sequence comes to a stage that is not accessed on the Access page. When it is OFF, it jumps to the next accessible stage (SEEK), and when it is ON, it sleeps for the corresponding time (SLEEP). This setting is common for X-FUN and Y-FUN.

CLK RST

Set by the second row from the top, the leftmost grid. When ON, inputting a gate to X-MOD returns the X coordinate of the sequence to 0.

GLIDE

Set by the leftmost grid in the second row from the bottom. When set to ON, while the X-MOD gate is ON, the pitch changes when the stage moves in the X direction will be glide. GLIDE is not applied separately for X-MOD and Y-MOD, but can be set only for either.

CLK by MOD LOGIC

This is the setting made on the second grid from the top and three grids on the right. By default, the stage is sequenced in the X direction by applying a clock to XCLK, but depending on this setting, a clock signal using both XCLK and X-MOD gate information is created and the sequence in the X direction is performed. .

How to use both gate information (Logical operationThere are three types in), and select and select one from the three grids. From left: AND, OR, XOR.

For example, if XOR is selected, a gate signal that turns ON when only XCLK or X-MOD is ON will be used as the clock in the X direction.

Gate by MOD LOGIC

It is a setting made in the third row from the top and three grids on the right. By default, if the X-Gate is ON when the stage advances in the X direction, the gate will be output from the GX output, but depending on this setting, both X-Gate ON / OFF and X-MOD Use the gate information to create the signal output from GX. There are three types of how to use both gate information (logical operation), and select and select one from the three grids. From left: AND, OR, XOR.

For example, if you select AND, the gate will be output from G-X only when X-Gate is ON and X-MOD is ON.

Gate by Opposing CLK

This is the setting at the bottom row, right three grids. By default, if the X-Gate is ON when the stage advances in the X direction, the gate will be output from the GX output, but depending on this setting, the gate information of both ON / OFF of the X-Gate and YCLK Use to generate the signal output from GX. There are three types of how to use both gate information (logical operation), and select and select one from the three grids. From left: AND, OR, XOR.

For example, if you select OR, the gate will be output from G-X when YCLK is input or X-Gate is ON.
